Background:
All Tesco produce must be attractive to look at and good to eat.
So freshness, taste, appearance, performance and value are key criteria
for which standards are set for suppliers and no product that falls
below these very high quality standards is allowed for sale. However,
Tesco are determined that this is achieved by adopting production
and produce handling practices which are sustainable and protect
and where possible enhance the well being and biodiversity of the
environment. It is for this reason that Tesco developed Nature’s
Choice, which has been implemented through a Code of Practice since
1991. This Code identifies key principles and practices which when
complied with by Tesco’s Producers and Suppliers of fresh
fruit, vegetables and salads, will ensure that their production
and produce handling systems are sustainable, environmentally sound
and responsible. Tesco aim to have all their Producers and Suppliers
meeting the requirements laid down in the Code of Practice by 2006.
There is increasing concern about the need to protect our environment
and the health of the population. All food production causes some
disruption to the natural environment, but Nature’s Choice
is about identifying and adopting sustainable farming systems and
practices which will lessen this effect. It means devising and implementing
ways of reducing the use of materials and energy, minimising waste
and adopting the principle of recycling wherever it is practicable
and environmentally beneficial to do so
What can Integra offer?
Integra is approved by Tesco to do inspections and audits.
Where appropriate, Integra can also combine
Tesco Nurture (Tesco Nature's Choice)
assessment with
inspections to assess compliance with other internationally recognized
standards e.g. Eurepgap/Globalgap,
BRC Technical Standard...
